R1 Hoody
A great hooded base to mid layer for active pursuits in cold temperatures.

Sublime piece of gear!
I used to own this top back in the early 00's and loved it was one of those baselayers you keep on for the entire time you're in the woods (14 days is the longest I went wearing this in Januaray sub zero temps of the ADK). I tried to replace it with something by Mountain Hardwear a few years ago when Patagonia stopped making them and lucky folks were selling them used on eBay for $200 to hungry fans of the R1 hoody. I was dissapointed wth the MH knock off of the R1 and now I will be shopping for another R1-Hoody this winter season.
I noticed Patagucci has some new colors for this after nearly a decade of production.

Great Winter Base layer
Grab one of these for winter base layer. Like the stretchy material, breathability, thumb holes and the overall fit. The hood allows easy temp regulation and fits nicely under a helmet.

Supershirt!
The first day I wore this at the Mt. Washington Ice Fest in February there were three of us trying to check out gear in the same line wearing the same shirt. I've worn it ice climbing, cycling, hiking, skiing, around my apartment... It's fantastic with the offset zipper on the facemask, the thumb holes, the hoody, and it breathes like I'm not even wearing a shirt! I'll be wearing this on Gasherbrum 2 this summer. If only they made an R2 or an insulated softshell version as well.

All year round...
This layer is the only one that comes with me year round. Throughout Colorado winters it makes a great mid-layer and the balaclava style hood means one less thing I need to remember to pack. Throughout summer I bring it as my insulating layer for 14er climbs and throw it on when the weather gets bad or the wind picks up. It's comfortable to wear in a pretty wide range of temps too. When you need to put it away it rolls up nicely into it's own hood. In fall and spring a light t-shirt and my R1 is usually all that I'll need to wear when I'm moving. It's a wonder to me why there aren't more options like this out there. It's my favorite layering piece by far.

Favorite piece of clothing
This is hands down my favorite piece of clothing for the alpine environment. I don't head out for a climb without it.

Great base to mid layer
I love this jacket, I use it as base layer under an heavier fleece jacket and it works perfectly in cold weather.
I love the hood/balaclava, and since I wear this I do not need to wear a hut..,

Best Outdoor Garment Ever
I can't think of a season or reason not to bring the R1 Hoody along. It's gotta be the best piece outdoor garment ever created.
