Overview

Geographical classification: Western Alps > High Dauphiné Alps > Roche Faurio

Very fine view point dominating Glacier Blanc (White glacier) in front of North face of Barre des Ecrins (4110 m.). Mainly and often climbed along the SW side : snow/ice about 350 m. over the glacier, with a final steep rock pitch (15 meters). Average difficulty of this normal route : F/PD according to conditions. Ridges are of loose rock, W and N faces with mixed rock/ice are difficult. About three hours from Ecrins hut along the left bank of Glacier Blanc

N face : La Brèche de Tombe Murée (TD+) route pictures

The rail station south of Briancon is referred to on the SNCF site and others as "Argentiere Les Ecrins".
