A brief poem about my Florida Highpoint
Twas the night before Christmas while at my mom’s house
I unfortunately was jobless and so was my spouse
We had arranged all of our documents with diligent care
Hoping in Florida, that our jobs would be there
Most of our housewares were nestled in storage
That didn’t stop me from eating oatmeal
Is that the same thing as porridge??
I looked at my cell phone,
From which came such a clatter
Our jobs were approved
Now nothing else mattered!!
Two days after Christmas,
We went on our way
Three thousand plus miles
Still stood in our way
But what was in Florida that I had yet to see
A highpoint of course,
Not much taller than me!
So onward we drove towards the SouthEast
Thanking GOD we didn’t drive a gas-guzzling beast
To Oregon and California
That’s a long ways I warn ya
From Arizona through New Mexico
Still miles to go
Now Texas was new,
A state I hadn’t yet seen
But after two days of driving through it….
Well, you know what I mean!!
Louisiana for new years
No time for a few beers
Just slept it away
Only to drive the next day
Six days total is what it took to get there
So to click off a highpoint,
Well, it only seemed fair.
While I drove NorthEast to claim one more prize
My wife had went South, she could now close her eyes.
It was supposed to be warm here,
Or so I was told
But to our surprise
It was amazingly cold
It did not take brute strength
It took only sheer will
To claim one more highpoint
Which would be Britton Hill!!!!
So someone might ask, how far did I go?
And why drive so far for a highpoint so low?
My answer would be, “I drove quite a ways”
“As a matter of fact, I have driven for days.”
As for why…….
I’m still trying to figure that one out!!
