The main modes of the Altimax wristop computer are altimeter, barometer and time. The Altimax can be set to show information in imperial or metric units. The Suunto Altimax features the easy-to-use logic, a large display with big numerals, electroluminescent backlight and a user-replaceable battery. The altimeter features easy button access to intermediate information about the vertical changes or the runs skied during the day. The logbook allows you to review the gathered information up to one week of skiing or snowboarding.
Altimax also features an altitude difference measurement function for following vertical progress between stages. It has an automatic 24-hour memory that stores altitude and ascent/descent rate for every hour. The Altimax features an adjustable altitude alarm. The logbook allows you to record total and cumulative vertical ascents and descents, as well as the number of runs skied.
The Altimax displays the current barometric pressure and temperature, which is valuable information for forecasting the weather changes. The Altimax automatically records barometric data for the past four days: the first six hours in one-hour intervals and after that in six-hour intervals. The resolution of the barometer is 1 mbar/0.05 inHg. When the reference altitude is correctly set, the instrument also shows the present sea level pressure, which makes it easier to read and understand the barometric pressure at high altitudes. However, when on tour on the mountains, don't forget that the detected barometric pressure changes when you are moving in the vertical direction. This makes tracing of weather changes more complicated.
In addition to the multiple watch functions - 12/24 hour clock, calendar programmed to 2089, 3 daily alarms, stopwatch, countdown timer - Altimax also features dual time.

Highly reliable and very useful piece of gear. With the first unit that I owned, some moisture got inside and fogged up the face. Took it back to the retailer and had a brand new unit in about 4 weeks (good customer service on the part of Suunto). No problems since. Like the large face (big numbers) with the large buttons that can be operated with thick gloves. Durable - most of the time rock climb with it on. The face is scratched up but it works just fine.

Good Product
I used one of these for about 5 years without ever having any trouble. My new GPS has a very accurate altimeter in it, so I don't use this one anymore. I used mine so much I had to replace the watchband after about 4 years. Good product and I highly recommend it.

I'm very satisfied with Altimax. An accurate and reliable combined equipment. Easy to handle, large numbers easy readable. The size is a negative but it goes together with large buttons which is a real help in hard conditions e.g. cold weather your fingers chilled etc., or in the dark: it's background light is especially pleasant.
Although it's thermometer is it's weakness, I think this is a general weakpoint of a wristwatch thermometer, not specific to suunto.
