My Take

The Osprey Website shows this bag to be a good fit for weights up to 60#. I have put 55# in it and it still fits like a glove and handles the load very well.

I have used the hydration system under light loads, but for a heavy load, I don't think that it would work that well with the bladder in the backpack. All of the weight of your gear would be resting on the bladder or you have to put the bladder somewhere else. It just seemed like too much of a hassle for me, my opinion.

I tried on several backpacks all with 40# in them and this one felt like there was nothing in it. That was the main purchasing factor, and considering the price, it had better come close to carrying the load up the mountain for you. Worth it in my opinion though.

Last takes:
The hip belt is awesome, get it fitted in the store.
Fanny pack: yeah, whatever.
Two ice axe loops - nice.
Side zipper pocket - nice for things you need now.
It hauls weight well.
