Sweet Helmet! Petzl and BD make way!
Awesome. Climbers turn up your Elios and Meteor 3s and make flower pots out of them because when you get your hands on the Tripod you will ask yourself what the hell did you put on your head before.

I got the chance to play around with the Tripod (odd name for an climbing helmet) last weekend at a local clinic and I was ready to trade both my Ecrin and Meteor 2 for this beauty.
At best comparison, the Tripod is most similar to the Meteor series in design and material but with the complete adjustibility and comfort of the Ecrin ROC (basically combine the Ecrin ROC and Meteor and you get the Tripod...its that simple). The Ecrin ROC and Meteor 2 are the only two helmets I've owned and worn to this day by the way.

That said, beyond style points the Tripod is very light and comfy. Although I only wore it for a few minutes whiles talking to the MAMMUT Rep (trying to get her to coax her big Euro bosses to get the EXTREME line over to us in the USA) I could see that comfort, visibility and ventilation would not disappoint the most sensitive heads after a basic multi-day crag.
I love it! Sadly, I already have two helmets and no extra money to splurge on a third helmet before selling the two I have which I may eventually since this Tripod would work great in the place of either-with the exception that the Tripod lacks the extra hard plastic of the Ecrin ROC.

PROS: Everything; Light, Ventilated, True Adjustibility, Looks way cool. We finally get some toned down easy-on-the-eyes colors (not that there is anything wrong with bright "Skittle" reds, yellows and neon greens). All raving aside, the design of the Tripod makes alot of sense when you put it on your head. Headlamp clip-in grooves are a nice plus.

CONS: Lacks that extra hard plastic outer shell like the Ecrin ROC. The Tripod has soft foam under a low-profile thin poly shell like the Meteor series. This may not last as long or be as durable as an extreme "Ecrin ROC" type helmet (I'm no expert on helmet testing). Too many vent holes makes it hard for the self-appointed owner/wearer to dress up the Tripod with unique stickers and other glue-based trinkets.
