Grand Rochebrune is one of the highest mountain of Queyras . It belongs to Briançonnais too. There is no higher mountain arround. The closest higher mountains are Monviso, High Dauphiné range and Fon Sancte - Chambeyron range.
The nice view from the summit covers all the western Alps.

The mountain is easy to climb (or difficult to hike) but the ascend is long. The rock is broken limestone.

Normal route:

Start point: Izoard pass 2360m
next step: Col Perdu 2479m 30min
next step: 100m descending and 500m ascending to Col des Portes 2915m. Long ascend on a path under les Oules ridge 2h
next step: step ascend from Col des Portes to "la Brèche". Falling stones risk.
next step: access to the eastern side of the mountain (II+)
last step: 50hm steep but like a step. (II)

Timing : 6h up and down.
