Pink on green amidst the rocks of the tundra
Moss campion,
Silene acaulis, is a tiny flower from the Pink (Caryophyllaceae) family which may be found all over Northern Hemisphere, from the Artcic tundra to the high-elevation rockscapes of the temperate climates. The pink flowers are no larger than a pinkie nail in size ... yet there could be hundreds of them, tightly packed in the moss-like green tufty pillows, set against beautifully textured rocks ... a very small but precious gem of the upper frontier of the plant kingdom.
