Obsession and the Surrounding Area

obsession The mighty main face of Obsession.

The main climbing area in the cliffs is called "Obsession." This large open basalt face offers numerous opportunities for sport and toprope climbing alike. The rock is not of greatest quality for climbing (by which I mean that lichens have taken a liken' to it--bad joke--and some parts are very slick with the crusty little buggers) but it offers those people living in the area something fun to head out and do on the weekends. :)

There are a few bolted routes, though I do not know much beyond that. Anyone with information on the routes set up at Obsession PLEASE let me know! I have only been there a few times, and just wanted to get the word out. I could use all the help I can get. I will post more stuff as I get it.

An excellent resource on climbing in the Cliffs are the MTU Ridge Roamers. I am a member here, but there are individuals who know far more than myself. This student organization usually runs at least one organized climb in the Cliffs each year, and members often head up there in smaller groups.

For now, enjoy the pictures!

Getting There

See the description in the Cliff Range page of how to arrive at this wonderful place...

In terms of getting to the exact location of the face:
To reach Obsession, drive down Cliff Drive until you are about a half mile from re-joining US41. On the lefthand (west) side there is a very prominent 4x4 trail. You can park there and then walk up the trial, or if your car is very tough you can give it a shot. Keep on the trail, and take every right turn you come to from there. Eventually you will find yourself at a really high point, and notice some footpaths that branch off. These paths snake up the rest of the hill to the top of the cliffs.

Children

Children

Children refers to the set of objects that logically fall under a given object. For example, the Aconcagua mountain page is a child of the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits.' The Aconcagua mountain itself has many routes, photos, and trip reports as children.

Parents

Parents

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
