Tresenta

Overview

Tresenta is one of the peaks of Gran Paradiso group, in Aosta Valley, West alps; it's a snow pyramid (seen from west, along the normal way) at the south of the main peak, just between GranParadiso and Ciarforon. The approach to normal way is the same as Gran Paradiso, until Vittorio Emanuele refuge. It's an easy climb, mainly on snow (bus something change last years, due to global heating) but not so attended as Gran Paradiso. Very often you will be alone on the mountain. It was climbed first time by M. Baretti (1870 ca.)

Getting There

The routes start from Pont (1960 mt), at the end of Valsavaranche valley. You can reach Pont driving along the motorway from Aosta until St.Pierre and then following for Courmayer until Villeneuve where you must turn on the left to rise Valsavarenche.
You can leave the car at Pont parking and then reach Vittorio Emanuele Refuge (2775 mt, 2h).

Red Tape

The area is included in Gran Paradiso Natural Park. No permit is required but you have to respect park rules.

When To Climb

The best period to climb this peak is June -September.
Crampons and the ice-axe are needed. It's also recommended to use rope. There was possibility of crevasses in the initial part of the normal route.

Camping

At Pont and along Valsavaranche you can find several good campings. The refuge Vittorio Emanuele will be usefull to divide the ascent in two days.
