The Gemmi
The
Gemmi is a precious gift to Walliser familytradition. In the spring of 1971 the ownership of the Gemmirailway was bought by the Leukerbad inhabitant Severin Loretan. Today it is already operated by the third generation of the Loretan family, namely by the families Loretan Erwin, Loretan Gerhard (Hotel Alfa) and Loretan Martin (Hotel Dala) under the managing director Wolfgang Loretan.
Christmas 1971 marked the opening of the panoramic restaurant which was further extended in 1982. In 1985, the in 1957 built Gemmirail, was modernized and has at the moment a capacity of 280 people per hour.In 1981 they built the chairlift to "Daubensee". 1995 they renovated the propulsion, the remote control and the securityinstallation of this rail and adjusted it to the current demands.
In November 1996 they renewed the rope of the Gemmirail and July 1997 marked the onset of building one of the most modern new mountainhotels at a height of 2350 m. above sealevel, which was opened in June 1998.
Engstligenalp
Adelboden's "mountain of insight" Engstligenalp lies some 2000m above sea level. The high plateau at the foot of Wildstrubel invites you to walk, free-ride, cross-country ski and to enjoy!
The mysterious high plateau, reached by cable-car, belongs to the 1996 government survey of cultural landscapes of national significance. The Engstligenalp serves as a starting point for many walks and mountain adventures. A recent addition is the 2.5 km long circular route which is suitable for wheelchairs and children's pushchairs. Particularly worth seeing are Engstligen waterfalls, under cantonal protection, where water falls 600m into the valley below.
