Overview

Popradský Ľadový štít,Zmarzły szczyt, Jegestavi csúcs ,Eissespitze This is not very spectacular summit but interesting because of its special location and great surroundings. Popradský Ľadový štít connects three Tatra's ridges.

*in eastern direction-ridge with Kačaci Štit (2395m) and Batizovský Štit (2448m).The ridge separates Batizovská and Litvorova valleys, also short part of upper level of Kačacia valley which belongs to Bielovodská valley's system. Between Popradský Ľadový štít and Kačaci Štit there is Vyšné Kačie sedlo.

*in north-western direction-ridge with Východný Železný štít (2340m), Snežné kopy, Západný železný štít (2360m), Zlobivá (2426m),Rumanov štít (2428m) and Gánok(2462m). This ridge separates Zlomisková and Kačacia valleys.

*in southern direction-part of Končistá (2538m) ridge with Sedlo pod Drúkom which separates Štôlska and Batizovská valleys.

The name Popradský Ľadový štít comes from little lake Ľadové pleso placed in Zlomisková valley. First ascent belongs to Hungarian:Oliver Gomory with Paul Kirner ,1890.First winter ascent: Gyula A. Hefty and Lajos Rokfalusy, 1913.

Accomodation

The best starting points: Popradske Pleso Mountain Hotel This hotel is situated upon beatiful Popradske Lake in neighbouring to Mlynicka Valley - Mengusovska Valley on the main marked route leading to Rysy and at the entry to Zlomiskova Valley (Rumanov, Ganek and Vysoka tourist routes). Sliezsky Dom You can get there: -from Tatranská Polianka – green-marked trail, 2,5 h- the shortest and most logical approach -from Tatranské Zruby - blue/yellow/green marked trails, 2,5 h Starý Smokovec – yellow/green marked trails, 3 h- a variant of the first one -from Hrebienok – red-marked trail, 2 h- using Tatranska Magistrala Chata Popradské Pleso – red-marked trail, 4 h- using Tatranska Magistrala If you want to reach Batizovska valley without spending the night in the hut you should follow yellow-marked trail leading to upper part of Batizovská Valley (to Batizovské Pleso about 2 h) from Vyšné Hágy. Camping is forbbiden.

Red tape

The “High Tatra” is a National park, UN Bioheritage area and a European BioHeritage - if you are not a member of any climbing club you can move only on marked trails. In winter time (from November the 1st – June the 15th) The Tatra Mountains in Slovakian part are closed for normal tourists (not for climbers). In Polish part you can move the whole of year.
