Bela pec/Bila pec

The name Bela pec means in English White stove because of its white rock.

Bela pec is a mountain that is located in the Kanin group on the north side of the main Kanin chain and it is on Italian side. Bela pec is nicely seen from the pass Sella Nevea as a huge rock. And it is a huge rock. On all sides Bela pec has airy faces that are popular for climbing.

On the south side fall the south face and ridge directly to the hut Riffugio Gilberti (1850m) that is located on the start of the valley to the pass Prevala (2067m). From the Rif. Gilberti goes normal approach over the nice marked route, first through the valley on the south side of Bela pec, ascend on the saddle Sella Bela pec (2005m) and then over the SW ridge to the top of Bela pec. On the west side below the slopes of Bela pec continues the big plateau to the west to the pass Sella di Grubia o Peravo (2040m) where is also the Bivouac Marussich. To the north side the faces fall down in the forest above the west road to the pass Sella Nevea. On the east side of Bela pec, below the east face is the skiing slope of the skiing area Sella Nevea. This skiing area has only on cable car that you can use for ascend in Summer or Winter.

From the top of Bela pec in good weather you enjoy in beautiful view on all main Kanin ridge. The view on Lopa is from the top of Bela pec magnificent. You see the highest mountain of Kanin group Visoki Kanin from the north and below the north face of Visoki Kanin the Kanin glacier. In Prestreljnik`s north face you enjoy in view on amazing window. To the north you see the powerful Montaz/Iof di Montasio and Vis/Iof Fuart.

Nevejski preval/Sella Nevea (Pass) can be reached from NE, from Trbiz/Tarvisio or from the NW side.

Very popular for climbing are also faces of Bela pec where you will find good rock and very hard climbing routes.

When To Climb

The marked route is popular in snowless season and also climbing in the faces of Bela pec is popular in snowless season but not in very hot days.

Through the valley below the south face goes also popular tour skiing route to the Kanin glaciers and if you are interested you can also reach the summit of Bela pec over the SW ridge in Winter but be careful on avalanches.

Camping and huts

The hut in the near of Bela pec is the hut Riffugio Gilberti (1850m). The second hut is the hut Riffugio Div. Julia (1162m) on the pass Sella Nevea.


Camping inside the Triglav National Park is forbidden. Beside the mountain huts there are plenty of hotels and private apartments in the towns and villages, which surround the area. Here are few links where you can find info on accommodations closer and further away:
