Use it all the time
I use Memory Map software all the time, and combined with the Get Mapping aerial photography layers it makes a very interesting (rather than particularly useful) program. I use it more for planning routes rather than navigation (I'm a great believer in map and compass over GPS), however on occasion it has proven itself useful. The only down side is that more detailed maps are very expensive, and if you are thinking of buying one of the CD-ROMS I would seriously consider how much use you will get out of it.
