Overview

Just a stone, a big stone ... growing up from the meadows with its 50m of vertical and somewhere overhanging walls

This is a must for granite climbers, the most known big stone in Lombardia and very popular both as for rock climbing school and as a good way to end the day after a climbing day in Val di Mello.

When we started to climb there, in the middle '60, some routes were already known, but nobody was able to classify their difficulties, we used to think that the easiest routes were of 2° UIAA and used to climb up and down absultely in free climbing, no rope, no bolts (not yet born) some iron pegs, some wooden wedges here and there and a pair of very strong aided routes.

Now more than 50 different routes are classified and well bolted, see details of some of them in the link hereunder.
here some info

Getting There

Easy to find, the Sasso Remenno is on the left side of the road leading from Ardenno to San Martino Val Masino, few hundreds of meters before San Martino.

Here you can arrive from the Valtellina road coming from Milano - Lecco (SS36) at Colico choose for Sondrio, cross Morbegno and, after the bridge on Adda river you can find, on the left, the signs to Valmasino.
The road is steep and a little narrow in its first part, careful ....

Red Tape

a negative Red Tape, almost a duty ...
remember to stop, along the wayback, at a (famous) restaurant beyond a bridge ... don't ask me the name, no ads !!
but there you can eat the best pizzoccheri of the whole Valtellina :)

Camping

Camper area just at the door of San Martino, room for tents almost everywhere near the Sasso Remenno, and, of course, some cheap hotels and accomodations along the road
