Monte Brione....a fragment of Mediterranean sea wedged in the Alps
Monte Brione grows upon the northermost point of the Garda lake, already belonging to Trentino.
Its cuneiform and isolated shape grows over the Sarca plan and looks like a lookout of the big lake.
Some name it a fragment of Mediterranean sea wedged in the Alps and Goethe extolled the fabolous panorama in his Viaggio in Italia
The main characteristics of this mountain in not its highness (only 376m) but its sub-mediterranean flora and fauna (peculiar of this small area) placed in different environments : the wood, the bushes, the dry meadows, the secular olive groves, and, of course, the rocks.
It is considered a nature reserve and is sheltered as biotype by Trentino region as dry zone, it hosts about 33% of the 729 botanic species registered in Trentino and 25 different orchids
Il Monte Brione è ubicato sulle rive del Lago di Garda in Trentino. La sua forma isolata ed a cuneo si distende nella piana del Sarca e domina come una "vedetta" il grande lago.E' definito da qualcuno " un frammento di mediterraneo incuneato tra le Alpi" ........e anche Goethe ne elencava i pregi e il meraviglioso panorama nel suo settecentesco Viaggio in Italia.
Quello che caratterizza questo monte di soli 376 m. non è tanto l'altezza quanto la sua flora e fauna submediterranee (non riscontrabili in altre zone della Provincia)situate in vari ambienti diversificati: il bosco, le siepi, il prato arido, le secolari olivaie e l'ambiente rupestre. E' considerato un'oasi botanica ed è protetto come biotopo dalla Regione come zona arida, anche perchè ospita un terzo delle specie botaniche censite in Trentino ( ben 729) e moltissime Orchidaceae ( 25 tipi).

Its structure is made of bedded sedimentary rocks, in the older part there are marlstones and clays, over them limestones and sandstones.Between the layers, slanted to NW, many sea organisms fossils.
Il monte è formato da rocce sedimentarie stratificate: marne e argille nella parte più antica e strati calcarei ed arenarie in superficie. Tra questi strati, non orizzontali ma fortemente inclinati verso NO, si trovano moltissimi fossili di organismi marini.

Very important strategic place during the Austro-Ungarico period being settled on the border with Italy.
Remarkable and still visible the counterworks buolt between 1860 and first world war : Forte S. Nicolò, Forte Garda, Batteria di Mezzo and Forte S, Alessandro.
Rivestì notevole importanza strategica durante il periodo Austro-Ungarico in Trentino essendo situato sul confine con l'Italia. Notevoli ed ancora visibili le opere di fortificazione realizzate tra il 1860 e la Prima Guerra Mondiale: il Forte S. Nicolò, il Forte Garda, la Batteria di Mezzo e il Forte S, Alessandro.
