Route to Lago Money

Overview

This not very popular alpine lake, located in a grassy basin at the foot of Mount Creya and Testa di Money, offers a good view of the Grauson valley, from Punta Garin to Tour or Mont Grauson and on the right from Punta di Leppe to Laval, Gianni Vert, Tessonet and Tersiva.

Questo laghetto alpino non molto frequentato, posto in una conca erbosa ai piedi del monte Creya e alla Testa di Money, offre un buon panorama sul vallone di Grauson, dalla Punta Garin alla Tour o Mont Grauson e sulla destra dalla Punta di Leppe alla Laval, Gianni Vert, Tessonet e Tersiva.

Getting There

BY CAR:

• From Torino, Milano, etc: Motorway A5. Exit in Aosta Ovest. Drive to the near Aymavilles. Follow in the direction of Valle di Cogne.
• From Switzerland: through the Grand St. Bernard Tunnel or the homonym Pass). Drive to Aosta, then follow Courmayeur direction on SS.26. Just after Sarre, turn to the left, in the direction of Valle di Cogne.
• From France: through Mont Blanc Tunnel or Petit St. Bernard Pass). It isn't necessary to enter in Motorway A5, you can drive through SS.26 Aosta direction. Before arriving at the Village of Sarre, follow the sign and turn right towards Valle di Cogne. After Aymavilles, the SR.47 crosses the Villages of Vieyes, Epinel and Cretaz and after about 25 Km. arrives at Cogne (1.534m). Follow the road signs for Gimillan and Lillaz; arrived at a round-about, recently built in proximity of the St. Anthony Chapel, go left along the scenic route leading to the Village of Gimillan (1.787m), 3 Km. after Cogne. Usually no parking problem.

• Aeroporto "Corrado Gex" Saint Christophe (Aosta).

Route Description

The itinerary is the same as the one that leads to the lakes of Lussert, Corona and Doreire up to before the pasture Grauson desot or Grauson vecchio (2.278m), 1h'50/2h'10 from Gimillan, from this point near a spring, very cold water, on the right begins the climb. After a short stretch that climbs halfway up the slope with a slight slope above the Grauson desot pasture, the path, marked with the n° 8C, continues with some steeper sections and after about 0'h40/0h'50 you reach the Money Lake (2.558m). Total time: 2h'30/2h'50 from Gimillan car park.

L’itinerario è praticamente uguale a quello che conduce ai Laghi di Lussert, Corona e Doreire fino a prima dell’alpeggio Grauson desot o Grauson vecchio (2.274 m), 1h'50/2h'00 da Gimillan, da questo punto nei pressi di una sorgente, acqua freddissima, sulla destra inizia la salita. Dopo un breve tratto che sale a mezza costa con lieve pendenza sopra l’alpeggio di Grauson desot, il sentiero, contrassegnato con il n° 8C, prosegue con alcuni tratti più ripidi e dopo circa 0h'40/0h'50 si raggiunge il lago del Money (2.558 m). Tempo totale: 2h'30/2h'50 dal parcheggio di Gimillan.
