Oregon State County Highpoints

There are 36 counties in the state of Oregon. Since four pair of counties share common summits, there are 32 locations on this list.

The first person to complete all the Oregon county highpoints was Ken Jones in 1999.
Second -Bob Packard
Third -Bob Bolton
Fourth -Bob Schwab
Fifth -Terry Richard
Sixth -Dennis Poulin
Seventh/Eighth -Mary and Peter Green
Ninth - Adam Helman
Dean Molen only lacks Mt. Jefferson to finish.

Mt. Jefferson's summit on the Linn/Jefferson county line is considered the most difficult county summit in the state. Mt. Jefferson also has a unique distinction in the state of Oregon in that it has a "liner" highpoint on its north flank which marks the highest point in Marion County, giving Jefferson three county highpoints less than 2/3 of a mile apart.

Four of the Oregon county HPs are relatively nondescript liners or unremarkable areas (Gilliam, Lincoln, Sherman and Wasco Counties) and will most likely never have SP pages. Most of the rest are of magnificent stature, and all but 10 already have pages on the site. Those already posted are listed at the left as "Children".

County Highpointing Resources

A vast amount of information about county highpointing can be found here: http://www.cohp.org.

You can have your county highpoint progress displayed on that site by entering your visits either there or at http://www.peakbagger.com. The two websites have a special connection that allows them to work together. If you set up a membership at http://www.cohp.org, you'll also be a member at http://www.peakbagger.com, where you can enter all your other climbs as well.

Re: Saddle Mtn.

Thanks for noting that. I removed the incorrect link. Need to do a page for the peak and give it some respect!

Re: saddle mountain page

Actually, Clatsop County's Saddle Mountain (as opposed to Washington County's highpoint of the same name) is attached as a child to this page. But for whatever reasons the link wasn't added to the table. I'll fix it. -Bob

Strawberry

Good page guys. A minor detail but the elevation for Strawberry is actually 9040+ rather than 9038.

Marion County Highpoint

On the page you say "Five of the Oregon county HP's are relatively nondescript liners or unremarkable areas (Gilliam, Lincoln, Marion, Sherman and Wasco CO's) and will most likely never have SP pages" Marion County now has a page, which you actually have linked on your page.

Tower Mountain (Umatilla CoHP)

I created a SP page for Tower Mountain today. If you get a chance, please put the link on your front-page list. Thanks! http://www.summitpost.org/tower-mountain/747434 (Tower Mountain is a great peak, by the way!)

Wasco County HP gets a bad rap

I was pretty far into this CHP quest before I realized that the Wasco CHP liner is on the flanks of Olallie Butte. Since the liner itself is only a short side trip from the trail to the Olallie summit, it seems like this HP should be linked to Olallie Butte, with a note that it is a liner. Olallie Butte is quite nice and the only spot which may have better Jefferson views is the summit of Three Fingered Jack. So it was kind of hidden gem, much better than expected. Think of Wasco county as an Olallie summit hike with an added bonus of a nearby CHP.
